Here you find the details of our current International Summer Courses.

 

The International Summer Courses, organised by bibis in co-operation with Bielefeld University , Fachhochschule Bielefeld [Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences] and the DAAD [German Academic Exchange Service], combine intensive learning with after-class leisure activities: an ideal opportunity for you to get to know the country and its people.

You can choose from the following types of courses:

 

 


It is possible to book two ore more consecutive courses.

After successfully completing your course, you'll receive a certificate of participation.


Depending on the type chosen, the courses include the following components:

  • speaking and writing
  • reading and listening comprehension
  • communication training
  • (specialist) vocabulary
  • examination training
  • sample tests
  • project work
  • computer language lab and internet
  • leisure programme


In the mornings, you will learn in small groups. In the afternoons you can participate in the leisure programme, a mixed variety of cultural and social activities like excursions to interesting places in our region, a day trip to a big city, excursions on weekends, a guided tour through Bielefeld, visiting museums, the theatre, and music and sports events, sporting activities, picnics, parties, going to the pub, a disco, international cooking, painting course.

 

Course type I:
General language courses at basic, intermediate and advanced level

This type will suit you if you want to learn the language in general. All summer students will be simultaneously taught at the level appropriate for them (including advanced) in small groups, without a particular linguistic focus. The lessons concentrate on oral communication. However, grammar and the other linguistic skills are not neglected. You will improve your speaking and writing skills as well as reading and listening comprehension. Cultural and Landeskunde [regional studies] topics enrich the lessons and help you to enlarge your vocabulary.

 

 

Course type II:
Business German

This type of course requires skills at an intermediate level and suits all those who want to 'blend' their general knowledege of German with business topics. In addition to practicing grammar and structures of German, the students will become familiar with the following topics:

  • The role of Germany in the EU
  • German foreign trade
  • Banking system
  • Types of enterprises and marketing in international comparison

Presenting short papers, working on projects after internet research, and visiting several companies are integral parts of the course.

 

 

Course type III:
Advanced training courses in methods and didactics for German as a foreign language (DaF/DaZ)

This type of course requires an advanced level of proficiency (C2) and aims at teachers of German from abroad as well as at students and postgraduates with a degree course in German Studies or German as a Foreign Language.

Topics:

  • Learning strategies
  • analysis of teaching materials
  • new media
  • error analysis and correction
  • observation and analysis of teaching practice
  • didactic adaptation of raw materials.
This range of topics can be extended according to agreement. Please let us know what topics you would like to see included.

 

 

Course type IV:
German language and everyday culture

 

This course requires level C1 and aims at People learning German; students and teachers of German and the humanities.

Topics:

  • Projects: (1) exploring town, (2) school and the education sector
  • creative writing in a museum
  • cultural background and new media
  • German history after 1945 in films and museums
  • lyrics and cultural background
  • a comparative look at idioms.

Course type V:
Curtain up - project theatre

This course requires level C1 and aims at teachers, students and graduates of German as a foreign language and in German studies.

Topics:

  • basics of theatre education for the teaching of German as a foreign language at various levels
  • scenic work
  • games for  lively holistic teaching work
  • theatre visit.

2. Payment of course fees

Please pay a first instalment of € 150 Euro on registration. As soon as the the money is credited to our account, you will receive a confirmation of registration. The payment deadline for the outstanding remainder of the course fees is four weeks before the start of the course.

Please make sure that all payments are free of charge for us!

3. Accommodation and meals

bibis can arrange single-room accommodation in halls of residence (accommodation only), or private rooms in a flat, which is usually shared with other students. The rent is € 295 for three weeks for both types. Please note that availability is limited. Therefore we recommend early registration to ensure that you get the room of your choice. We strive to book the desired type of accommodation, but no guaranty can be given.

The rent has to be paid upon arrival at our office, where you will be also told the address.

On weekdays you can get inexpensive meals at the restaurant of the youth hotel in the compounds of our building complex or in the canteen and cafeteria of Bielefeld University. Upon request we will send you a detailed information brochure on the summer programme. Please note that the conditions for room reservation are different from those for regular bibis German language courses (see AGBs [terms and conditions of trade])

4. Cancellation, non-attendance, or abandoning the course

If you cancel the course after the registration deadline, the first instalment of your payment will not be refunded. Any further payments will only be refunded if we receive your notice of cancellation in writing two weeks before the start of the course. In case of (partial) non-attendance, you cannot claim any refunds.

5. Cancellation by bibis

bibis reserves the right to cancel a course if the number of participants is too small. In this case you will be fully reimbursed.

6. Extension of the obligations to be performed, and liability

The course fees cover the obligations to be performed as stated in our programme. bibis cannot be held liable if obligations cannot be performed due to superior force or to reasons that lie outside bibis' responsibility.

7. Insurance

Please note that course participation does not include any insurance cover, be it health and accident insurance, or insurance against theft, etc. So please check your existing personal insurance policies, and complete your insurance cover, if necessary.
